Ernie Gallagher

Background

Ernie’s distinguished career in broadcasting began in the late 1970s, rooted in the vibrant era of Dublin’s pirate radio scene with stations such as Southside, Radio City, and BLB. During the 1980s, he became a defining voice on the city’s legendary “Super Pirates,” including the original Radio Nova, Sunshine, and Energy.

His transition to national airwaves came with a landmark appointment at Century Radio, Ireland’s first national independent station. Ernie’s versatility further evolved in the 1990s when he served as both a presenter and Programme Director for East Coast FM. In recent years, he has remained a staple of the Dublin dial, contributing to Radio Nova and enjoying a successful decade-long tenure at Dublin’s Q102. Beyond the microphone, Ernie is an accomplished performer of stage and screen; his credits span numerous film and television productions, most recently featuring a sold-out run of Our Town at Dublin’s historic Smock Alley Theatre.
